Under lördagens UFC 211 plockade #3-rankade welterviktaren Demian Maia hem sin sjunde raka seger i UFC då han besegrade Jorge Masvidal via delat domslut. Han blev genom sin seger också äntligen klar för nästa titelchans mot Tyron Woodley, något som många tycker att han gjort sig förtjänt av sedan långt tidigare.
Men om Woodley själv fick bestämma vore Maia det sista valet som motstånd för sitt nästa titelförsvar. I en nylig intervju med ESPN.com öppnar ”The Chosen One” för att ta en match mot Nick Diaz eller Georges St-Pierre före brasilianaren.

”I think those fights are way more real than you guys realize,” säger Woodley om St-Pierre och Nick Diaz. “I was teasing everyone for several weeks, but that wasn’t for giggles. Those are realistic options that could make Demian Maia take a back seat for a little bit.”

Woodley erkänner att Maia förtjänar ett titelmöte. Samtidigt menar mästaren att det är en match som han inte ser fram emot att förbereda sig inför. Efter sina dubbla titelförsvar mot karate-specialisten Stephen ”Wonderboy” Thompson har Woodley ingen lust att möta en BJJ-specialist i sitt nästa försvar.
”He is one of the last specialists in the UFC,” säger Woodley. ”He and Stephen Thompson are two of the last specialists in the sport and they just so happen to be in my weight class, right near the top. Training for Wonderboy’s karate, two times in a row — they were the most annoying camps of my life. He’s so good at what he does.”
”I was a little frustrated with people at the FOX studios this weekend. They were laughing and jumping on my back like Maia does in fights. When I fight these specialists, I can’t be free in camp. I can’t be free in a fight. I can’t fight the way I normally would against a traditional, freestyle fighter. Now, I might have to go back to a similar training camp.”
Tidigare under månaden meddelade Woodley att han redan påbörjat ett fightcamp och att han hoppas återvända för att försvara sin titel någon gång i juli.
