Den kvinnliga fjäderviktsdivisionen i UFC har inte riktigt fått den start som de önskat. Efter att titelmatchen mellan Holly Holm och Germaine de Randamie gick av stapeln så har det mestadels rått förvirring.
När UFC utannonserade att de skulle köra igång sin kvinnliga fjäderviktsdivision med en titelmatch mellan Holly Holm och Germaine de Randamie var det många som höjde på ögonbrynen.

I mångas mening är Cristiane ”Cyborg” Justino (17-1-1 NC) den okrönta drottningen av divisionen men efter att hon fått problem med USADA och sin senaste viktminskning så kunde hon inte ställa upp. Det blev istället de Randamie som kröntes UFCs första fjäderviktsmästarinna efter en kontroversiell vinst i februari.
Efter att ”Cyborg” blivit friad från sina USADA-problem och var redo för fight så var en match mellan henne och fjäderviktsmästarinnan de Randamie en logisk match för UFC att boka men mötet har av olika anledningar inte blivit av.
De Randamie har bland annat sagt att hon kan komma att behöva en handoperation och att hon önskar att möta Holm i en returmatch. Under den senaste tiden har det även börjat cirkulera rykten om att de Randamie kan komma att lämna ifrån sig bältet, något som minst sagt har fått fans att ifrågasätta divisionens framtid.
Det har även ställt ”Cyborg” i en konstig situation då hon står redo att tävla men saknar motståndare. Ett annat namn har dock blivit allt mer aktuellt, Invicta FCs fjäderviktsmästarinna Megan Anderson (8-2).
Hon är inte under kontrakt med UFC men i gårdagens avsnitt av The MMA Hour så tog matchen ett steg närmare verklighet då både ”Cyborg” och Anderson kom överens om att mötas under UFC 214:
“I am very excited about this fight, and I called out this fight a long time, because I think she’s a 145-pounder,” sade Cyborg. “This fight was supposed to happen a long time again, and then no happen because her manager talked to the UFC and thought she needed more time, needed more fights. But they think this is the real fight. This is the real fight for the belt at 145.”
Båda överens om att mötas den 29 juli
”Cyborg” Justino har inte tävlat sedan hon körde över svenska Lina Länsberg i september. Anderson har i sin tur tävlat fyra gånger under 2016-2017 och vunnit varje match varav den senaste var för Invicta FCs fjäderviktsbälte.
Både Anderson och ”Cyborg” var överens om att deras möte skulle ha varit för UFCs fjäderviktsbälte men att det inte gör någon skillnad nu:
“I think this fight should have been for the title in the first place,” sade Anderson. “I think the UFC should have waited for Cris until she was ready to fight, and they should have matched this fight. If Germaine can’t fight, let’s do it now.”
“Let’s make the best 145-pound fight in history,” fortsatte Anderson.
“I think we could do a great show July 29, and I hope Megan trains really hard,” svarade Justino. “It would be an amazing fight.
“I’m really happy that this has happened,” fortsatte Justino. “Because we really need people who have courage, to come and say you want to fight Cyborg. I don’t think you can choose your opponents. I think if you are champ, you shouldn’t choose your opponents. If you hold the belt, you have to fight anybody.”
Oavsett om matchen blir av så står det ändå klart att UFC nu har två talangfulla fjäderviktare som är villiga att slåss, oavsett om det står ett bälte på spel:
“I’ll fight her regardless,” sade Anderson. “I think with other divisions, if the champion doesn’t fight within a certain time they are putting up interim belts. I’m not too sure if they’d be willing to do that because there are minimal people in the division at this stage. But that’s the thing. Germaine, she signed up for the fight knowing that she could be a world champion. So, when you’re a world champion, you don’t get to choose who you fight. You choose the best, you choose the No. 1 contender. If she wasn’t ready for that, she shouldn’t have taken the fight.
“Cris and I are the top featherweights in the world. It should have been us, but it wasn’t. It’s fine, but let’s do it now.”
