Efter helgens superfight mot Floyd Mayweather står det oklart vad Conor McGregor väljer att göra framöver. Men enligt Leonard Ellerbe finns det en framtid för honom inom boxningen. Vd:n för Mayweather Promotions menar att irländaren har all anledning att känna sig stolt över sin första professionella boxningsmatch:
“I was actually very surprised with his ability to do certain things. If he chooses to, he definitely has a future in boxing – if he chooses to. To be able to last as long as he did, he’s a very tough competitor. He has a big heart and, again, he’s showed a lot,” säger Ellerbe.
“Especially with this being his professional debut. He did the UFC proud, he did his country proud, and he should definitely keep his head up high.”

Nöjd med UFC-samarbetet
McGregor förlorade matchen via TKO i den tionde ronden, då domaren valde att stoppa matchen. Irländaren uppgav efter matchen att han inte gillade domarens beslut – samtidigt som han var nöjd med sin prestation.
I efterhand berättar Ellerbe att han var väldigt nöjd med samarbetet med UFC och presidenten Dana White inför matchen – men att man från Mayweather Promotions sida inte planerar göra något liknande i framtiden.
“We’re not looking to fight any other UFC fighters. It was a great promotion. I really enjoyed working with Dana and his team. Very professional group. They’ve had a tremendous amount of success and I truly understand why,” säger Ellerbe.
“He’s got a great team. And they have a great, well-oiled machine. And it was, again, a great joy to be able to work with them at this promotion.”
