Återigen är UFC:s bantamviktsmästarinna Ronda ”Rowdy” Rousey (11-0) ett ämne i hetluften. Sedan hon gjorde debut på UFC:s pound-for-pound-lista har delade åsikter kring huruvida hon verkligen hör hemma där framförts. Efter sina senaste snabba vinster verkar dock fler och fler enas om att hennes namn har en självklar plats på listan, och vissa anser till och med att man numera skulle kunna betrakta henne som UFC:s bästa utövare. Någon som inte riktigt håller med är emellertid Jessica ”Evil” Eye” (11-2, 1 NC), som nyligen delade med sig av sina åsikter kring det hela.
Efter att Ronda Rousey nu har besegrat samtliga utmanare i topp 5 verkar nästa titelchans av allt att döma stå mellan sjätterankade Jessica Eye och sjunderankade Bethe Correia (9-0) i dagsläget. Bägge har den senaste tiden gjort sig allt mer hörda i media, där ingen gör sig otydlig med vad de är ute efter. Nyligen intervjuades Eye av Rick Lee, där framförallt pound-for-pound-rankingen var aktuell. Eye tycker inte att att sjundeplatsen på listan borde tillhöra Rousey – hon borde inte finnas med överhuvudtaget.

”Listen, I am 100 percent sold on the fact that this sport, as a female, I don’t ever want to do it without the men. I don’t ever want the men to feel like we’re in competition with them. It’s kind of a hard situation when you ask those pound for pounds.”
”I don’t think the women should be in the pound-for-pound [rankings]. I really don’t. I think we should be in our own division, pound-for-pound.”
Rousey har tidigare uttryckt att hon är självsäker om att kunna besegra UFC:s manliga bantamviktare även om hon också sagt att det aldrig skulle hända. Eye tror inte att Rousey skulle ha någon vidare chans mot män, och poängterar biologiska skillnader mellan män och kvinnor.
”I can train with them and compete with them but no, man. They’re men. Come on. Let’s not screw up what we know already. Men have testosterone. I go with these 125ers and these guys are fast. If they really wanted to put it on me, they would put it on us. I think they are kind of losing sight of what we already know and that’s that they’re men.
”They have testosterone. We’re women. We have estrogen. There’s that difference. If guys want to put it on us and beat us up they can. Come on now. Who we kidding?”
Eye är självsäker och tror starkt på att hon är näst på tur att möta Rousey. Eye, Rousey och UFC:s VD Dana White ska spendera helgen tillsammans hos South By Southwest i Austin i amerikanska Texas, och hon förväntar sig att förhandlingar om en match de två emellan kommer ta plats.
”I leave on Friday to go to Southwest Southwest [sic] with Ronda and Dana for the whole weekend. I feel like both of us being at Southwest Southwest [sic] for the weekend with the three of each other, plus my manager’s going to come, I think some serious negotiating is going to happen over this weekend.”
