Att vara mästare i UFC innebär också att man får mycket mer kontakt med media och måste ställa upp på konferanser, mediadagar å andra uppgifter och om det är någon som vet något om det så är UFCs forne bantamviktsmästare Dominick Cruz.
Cruz menar att det är mycket press att hantera när man blir mästare.

“You’re shocked with the pressure,” berättade han för MMAjunkie Radio. “It will flip your head around and bring you to reality super-fast when you become a world champion.”
“To be honest, you get a bigger job,” sa Cruz. “You basically become the manager of your division. Are you up for that challenge?”
Cruz tror att Carla Esparza (11-3) kommer att växa och bli en bättre fighter efter sin förlust mot Joanna Jedrzejczyk (9-0) i helgen.
“From this, she’s going to grow and become a better fighter,” sa Cruz. “Don’t count her out. But she does need to figure out a way to become more mentally tough through those situations.”
Cruz menar att många inte är förberedda på allt ansvar som kommer när man blir mästare och att det kan vara svårt att veta hur man ska handskas med det.
“You don’t realize that everything is not at your fingertips like you think is going to happen when you’re a world champion,” sa han. “Are you ready to be putting in double as much work as everybody else because you’re the champion?”
“These are all things that hit you right when you become the champion, and you don’t realize, holy cow, it’s harder to be a champion than become one. That’s what people don’t get.”
Cruz påpekade att Ronda Rousey (11-0) gör allt det som krävs av henne utan att hon klagar och att hon är en fighter som inte låter all mediatid och andra uppgifter påverka hennes prestationer i buren.
“Rousey, you’ll never hear her mention one thing of her responsibilities, because it comes with the territory,” sa Cruz. “When you start saying those things, you just weren’t ready for the challenge and that’s why you lost the position. So we’ll see. Maybe the next person that’s in that position can handle the challenge better and move forward.”
Cruz har några välvalda ord till Esparza.
“I understand what she’s saying, but she needs to understand: Welcome to the big leagues,” sa Cruz.
