Today at the UFC: Unstoppable press event prior to the UFC 196 weigh-ins, Dana White announced a mid-year welterweight match-up between perennial contender Rory “The Red King” MacDonald and fast-rising Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
MacDonald is coming off of a TKO loss to current champion Robbie Lawler, an epic fight that may have earned the Canadian 26-year-old a bevy of new fans. Thompson, more recently, shocked the MMA world with a first-round thrashing of former 170-pound champ Johnny Hendricks. These two worthy combatants will headline UFC Fight Night 89 on June 18 in Ottawa.
