Shawn Jordan (18-7) har inga matcher kvar på sitt UFC-kontrakt och hoppas kunna förhandla om en bättre lön. Skulle Jordan inte lyckas med det har han inga problem med att lämna sporten.
Jordan förklarar att han hellre vill tjäna pengar genom MMA, men att han skulle kunna skaffa ett nytt jobb ganska fort då han har utbildat sig inom kemi och kinesiologi.

”I prefer to fight and make money, but I graduated from college,” sa Jordan. ”I have degrees. I can go to work tomorrow and get a job.”
Jordan förlorade sin senaste match mot Ruslan Magomedov (14-1) på UFC 192 och den matchen var den sista på hans kontrakt. Hade Jordan vunnit den matchen hade han haft ett starkare argument till att förhandla sig till en bättre lön.
”Had I come out with a win there, the negotiating power would be in my court,” sa Jordan. ”Since I lost, then they can bully me around. But that’s fine. I’ll sit around and wait.”
Den fightern som Jordan skulle vilja möta är Fedor Emelianenko (35-4-1), då Jordan förklarar att det var Emelianenko som fick honom att bli intresserad av MMA.
”He’s the reason I kind of got into the sport to begin with,” sa Jordan. ”I started watching him fight way back when I was still watching football. He kind of drew me to the sport. He’s one of my favorite fighters, so it would be fun to compete with him before he retires.”
Jordan tycker inte att det är rättvist att en nykomling som Sage Northcutt (7-0) får bättre betalt efter bara två matcher i UFC, än vad många veteraner i organisationen får.
”Nothing against him, but he comes with his second fight in the UFC and they give him 40 and 40,” sa Jordan. ”They don’t pay half the veterans that.”
Jordan vill gå match ett par gånger till innan han kommer att fundera på hur han vill göra, men tycker att det borde finnas ett fack för MMA-fighters som man kan vända sig till.
”It’s one of those things you have to kind of suck it up and let them use you up,” sa Jordan. ”It gets a little frustrating. Guys are fighting their contracts out in order to get competitive [offers]. At some point, there’s gotta be a fighter union.”
”I want to get a couple more fights in and then revisit it and think about retirement or not,” sa Jordan. ”But if the money’s not there, then yeah. I’ll go get money.”
