Att Conor McGregor är en av de bättre boxarna i UFC är ingen hemlighet. Att irländaren skulle kunna mäta sig med Floyd Mayweather däremot, en av de bästa boxarna någonsin, det är en annan femma. Joe Rogan tror nämligen McGregor skulle bli ”fucked up” om han mötte ”Money” i en boxningsmatch.

Mitt i allt prat om att returmatchen mellan Nate Diaz (19-10) och Conor McGregor (19-3) inom kort kommer annonseras för UFC 202 fortsätter det ihärdiga ryktet om att irländaren skulle jobba på en boxningsmatch mot självaste Floyd Mayweather (49-0). Boxaren pensionerade sig förra året efter att ha besegrat Andre Berto (31-4) i sin 49:e raka professionella vinst.
UFC:s kommentator Joe Rogan tror först och främst inte att mötet de två superstjärnorna emellan överhuvudtaget kommer bli av:
”I don’t think [McGregor kan möta Mayweather]. I would imagine, unless the UFC is involved and I can’t imagine they would be willing to do that and I can’t imagine that they would let him fight Floyd Mayweather.”
Om det däremot nu skulle hända, om Mayweather och McGregor faktiskt skulle mötas i en boxningsring, bådar det inte gott för irländaren. Samma sak kan självklart även sägas om ”Money” om det rör sig om en MMA-match.
”If Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather fight in MMA, Conor McGregor will fuck him up. He will fuck him up…But, in a boxing match, I can’t imagine a world where Floyd Mayweather doesn’t fuck [McGregor] up. In a boxing match I think Floyd Mayweather is arguably the greatest boxer of all time…He’s just so much better. And if people don’t know, if you think you’re really good and then you get in there and box a guy like that, he will fucking expose the shit out of you.”
Det enda som kan spela i Conor McGregors favör är faktumet att Mayweather är mer än tio år äldre. Visst, tiden hinner ikapp alla, men inte ens Rogan kan tänka sig att irländaren är en bra boxare nog för att hända med en av de bästa någonsin:
”But I mean, who knows man? One of the things we know about Conor is he has a ridiculous belief in himself and he has unbelievable power. One of the things we know about Floyd is he’s 39. So when a guy turns 39, you never know. For every guy like Bernard Hopkins, there’s a bunch of guys where the wheels just fall off and all of a sudden they can’t take a punch anymore and they can’t fight anymore, they don’t move good anymore. But I can’t imagine a world where he’s not light years past Conor with boxing skill.”
