Då bantamviktsmästaren Cody Garbrandt skadade ryggen blev den framemotsedda titelmatchen mot rivalen TJ Dillashaw inställd.
Istället tog Dillashaw siktet mot flugviktsbältet. Han gjorde det klart för UFC att han var redo att gå ner en viktklass och utmana Demetrious Johnson – en idé som organisationen gillade.

Men när UFC:s vd Dana White gick ut med planerna om Johnson vs. Dillashaw fick han oväntat mothugg från ”Mighty Mouse” – som inte var intresserad av att möta Dillashaw.
“I have a fight with Demetrious Johnson where he’s on his way to break the record – Anderson Silva’s record for most title defenses. And T.J. Dillashaw can’t fight Cody ‘No Love’ because Cody screwed up his back, and Cody won’t be back for a while. He’s like, ‘I can make this weight, and I’m going to stop him from breaking that record,’” sa White i det senaste avsnittet av UFC Unfiltered och fortsatte:
” … T.J. is going to go down to 125 to fight D.J. to stop him from breaking the record, but D.J. doesn’t want to fight him. … It’s insanity.”
Planerar fortfarande att boka matchen
White svarar nu Johnson och påpekar att det inte är han som bestämmer vem som möter vem. Matchen mot Dillashaw är fortfarande planen, förtydligar UFC-bossen.
“Unfortunately for D.J., you don’t make the fights around here,” sa White. “I do. (Johnson vs. Dillashaw is) the fight we’re pushing for.”
Enligt White skulle en titelmatch mot Dillashaw bli Johnsons första möjlighet att tjäna pengar från pay-per-view-försäljningen, vilket gör att han inte begriper varför ”Mighty Mouse” inte är intresserad.
“This is the first fight ever in D.J.’s history that he actually gets pay-per-view,” fortsatte han. “He gets pay-per-view on this one, and this is the first real fight that people will care about and want to see on pay-per-view, and he is refusing to fight T.J. Dillashaw.”
”Dillashaw förtjänar chansen”
Johnsons argument för att inte vilja möta Dillashaw har varit att han anser att den tidigare bantamviktsmästaren tränger sig före i kön, och att nummer 3-rankade Ray Borg förtjänar titelchansen. Men det är inget som White håller med om.
“What’s he ranked – like (No.) 5 or 6?” frågade White. “T.J. Dillashaw is a former world champion, coming down from the weight class above who’s next in line for the title shot there. Absolutely he’s next in line (at flyweight), if that’s what he wants. … It’s nothing against Ray Borg.”
Det återstår att se vem ”Mighty Mouse” möter i sitt elfte titelförsvar.
