Conor McGregor (21-3) inledde fredagskvällen som gäst på Madison Square Garden i New York då han närvarade vid den efterlängtade professionella debuten för Irländske olympiske boxaren Michael Conlan, men stod som vanligt i rubrikernas centrum vid kvällens slut.
Efter matchens slut gick lättviktsmästaren loss på ESPN:s Dan Rafael efter att ha fått frågor om den omtalade superfighten i boxning mot den obesegrade boxningslegendaren Floyd Mayweather, Jr (49-0 boxning).

When I step in there, I’m going to shock the whole goddamn world. Trust me on that. Look me in the eyes. Twenty-eight years of age, confident as a motherfucker, long, rangy, dangerous with every hand. Trust me, I’m going to stop Floyd and you’re all going to eat your words. The whole world is going to eat their words.”
För bara dagar sedan uttalade sig UFC-presidenten Dana White om matchen, och sade att han inte längre tvekar på att den skulle bli av.
När McGregor tillfrågades om ett datum för den potentiella supermatchen undvek ”The Notorious” att svara på frågan:
“We’re getting close, don’t worry about it,” McGregor said. “You’ll hear about it. I’m out of here. I am boxing.”
