Conor McGregor påstår sig ha satt det nya rekordet för PPV-försäljningar. Officiellt sägs det att Brock Lesnar och UFC 100 fortfarande har det rekordet, men Lesnar bryr sig inte – så länge han bara får betalt.
Huvudmatchen på UFC 100 stod mellan Brock Lesnar (5-3) och Frank Mir (18-11). Försäljningssiffrorna av PPV låg på 1,6 miljoner i antal, vilket har varit det högsta ända sedan dess.
Conor McGregor (19-3) hävdar dock att UFC 196, där han mötte Nate Diaz (19-10), sålde hela 2 miljoner PPV. De officiella siffrorna är dock bara 1,5 miljoner för UFC 196, samt 1,4 miljoner för UFC 194, då McGregor tog titeln från José Aldo (25-2).
Lesnar verkar i vilket fall ha respekt för McGregor och det han har gjort för sporten.
“I know of Conor McGregor. This sport has evolved, even from when I first entered the octagon. I think people are finding out that you have to talk the talk, and you have to, more importantly, walk the walk. For guys that can talk and walk the walk, I think it’s great. I think it’s great for the company.”
Han verkar inte heller bry sig, oavsett hur det ligger till.
”I’ve got no qualms with anybody. If somebody wants to state that they’re the biggest pay-per-view draw in the world, I don’t care.
I’ve never come out and said: ‘I hold the most pay-per-view buys.’ All I know is what I got paid and I’m happy to do so. Like I said, I’m a prize fighter. I don’t hang my championship trophies on the walls, because they don’t pay the bills. Everybody’s making money, that’s what this is all about.”
