Den före detta WSoF-mästarinnan Jessica ”Jag” Aguilar (19-6) och Invicta-talangen Jodie Esquibel (6-3) var inbokade för ett möte under UFC Fight Night 131 i New York, men endast timmar innan matchen satte MMA-kommissionen stopp för matchen på grund av dermatologiska bekymmer gällande Aguilars hud, närmre bestämt hennes läppar – trots att hon blev medicinskt godkänd för tävling dagen innan.
Så här beskrev Aguilar ärendet via sociala medier:
”Hey guys! Here’s a little update on the BS that went down today right before my fight. I am super disappointed and heartbroken, this is the second fight in a row canceled. I want to clear things up. The commission had a concern regarding my lips and my use of chapstick during the physical exam prior to weigh-ins so they requested that I be cleared by a dermatologist. So right after weigh-ins the commission rush me to get clearance which I was granted by the dermatologist. But tonight, at the arena, the commission struck again and canceled the fight. You can’t reason with this commission, it kinda felted personal. ?I am hopeful the @UFC will rebook our fight ASAP.”
Nu kan Aguilar själv meddela att matchen bokats om för UFC Fight Night 133 den 14:e juli i Boise, Idaho.
“Great news!! My fight has been rebooked for July 14th! I’m so happy and extremely thankful. I’d like to send out a HUGE GRACIAS to my team (my ??, coaches, sparring partner, friends and family), for all their help, support, love and for riding with me on this rollercoaster. THANK YOU to my management @firstroundmgmt for handling business as always, to Jodi for agreeing to rebook this fight, to everyone who’s sent love my way, to all the media for helping me share my story and last, but not least THANK SO MUCH @mickmaynard2 & @ufc for making this a quick turn around.”
Aguilar briljerade utanför UFC med tio raka segrar utanför organisationen över bland andra veteranen Megumi Fuji och nuvarande UFC-fightern Kalindra Faria. Hon gjorde sin debut på UFC 190 i Brasilien mot Claudia Gadelha och förlorade via enhälligt domslut efter full tid. I sitt senaste framträdande mot Cortney Casey-Sanchez på UFC 211 fick hon än en gång se sig besegrad via enhälligt domslut.
Esquibel tog sig in i UFC med en seger över DeAnna Bennett i ryggen och ställdes mot den forne titelutmanaren Karolina Kowalkiewicz i sin första match i organisationen på UFC Fight Night 118. Efter tre gångna ronder fick även hon ett bittert välkomnande till UFC då hon också förlorade debuten via enhälligt domslut.
