UFC-presidenten Dana White imponerades av Conor McGregors insats mot den obesegrade boxaren Floyd Mayweather i helgen. UFC-stjärnan McGregor, som aldrig gått en professionell match i boxning förut, lyckades klara nästan tio ronder mot en av boxningens största genom alla tider – och förlorade sedan via TKO.

“I’m so proud of Conor tonight. It’s not the fight I thought it would be, it was a completely different fight than I expected. When you get into professional boxing, you guys know, you start four rounds, you go six rounds. He went 10 rounds tonight with arguably the greatest to ever do it,” sade White efter matchen.

Trots hyllningen är White klar med att han nu hoppas få se irländaren återvända till oktagonen härnäst:
“I would rather he did not”, svarar White på frågan huruvida Conor kommer gå ännu en boxningsmatch härnäst. ”This isn’t what he does. He’s a mixed martial artist where he goes in and he fights and he uses all of his weapons, and tonight he was only allowed use his hands. I think he did great tonight, I don’t think there’s anything else left to prove. I would rather he fight in mixed martial arts.”
På senare tid har även andra toppnamn i UFC försökt få till en supermatch i boxning. En av de är tungviktsmästaren Stipe Miocic, som försökt få till ett möte med världsmästaren Anthony Joshua – något han kan glömma, enligt White.

“I don’t even want to talk about my other guys in a boxing match. This one was these two big superstars, this thing built from the bottom up from the fans to the media and then up to us when we even started remotely considering something like this. It was a special event and a rare event. I’m not looking to do this again,” säger White.
