Bellators mellanviktsmästare Hector Lombard kan mycket väl ta och byta organisation efter att UFC har skickat ett 60 sidor långt kontraktserbjudande till Lombard om att flytta till den mer välkända organisationen.
– We’ve received the final proposed UFC agreement from Hector’s attorney, and right now we are in the process of reviewing it to determine whether we’re going to match the agreement, säger Bellators VD Bjorn Rebney till Sherdog. We’ve got the 60 pages of UFC contract that were forwarded to us by Hector’s counsel. We’ve been waiting on the actual contract itself to see all of the specifics and every conceivable detail and know exactly what is being offered. Now we have something really specific to look at.
Lombard har för närvarande befunnit sig i Bellators stall i 3 år nu, och under den tiden plockat hem 8 raka vinster. Totalt sett har han fått ihop ett imponerande MMA-rekord på 31 vinster, 2 förluster, 1 oavgjord match och en no contest, samtidigt som det var 6 år sedan han förlorade senast. De enda gångerna han förlorat har varit i organisationen Pride mot Akihiro Gono och Gegard Mousasi.
– The reality is that Hector is going to do extremely well whether he is fighting in the Octagon or the Bellator circle, and I think everybody knew that, fortsätter Rebney. He’s one of the best middleweights on the face of the earth. He hasn’t fought in a long time, and he had to wait through these periods contractually to get to a point where he could go out and seek an offer from a competing organization.
Bellators kontrakt med Lombard gick ut tidigare i år, vilket innebär att han inte är kontraktuellt bunden till någon organisation. Däremot har Bellator fortfarande en kontraktuell rätt att matcha ett erbjudande från en annan organisation innan de släpper honom. Så om UFC kommer med ett erbjudande för att gå matcher, så kommer Bellator ha rätt att se det erbjudandet och ha möjlighet att matcha det eller tacka nej till det. Men vad de kommer göra i det här läget är inte klart ännu, utan de kommer sätta sig ner och gå igenom det hela under nästa vecka.
– Out of respect for Hector, I think we will turn [the UFC contract] around very quickly, säger Rebney. Obviously, we have a huge event coming up Friday [Bellator 66]. As soon as that is over, we will sit down with our partners and go through the UFC contract line-for-line and make a strategic decision whether we’re going to match it or pass. [If we pass, we will] wish him the best and let him go knock out everybody in the UFC.
