Den senaste veckan har en slags ping-pong-match i kritik uppstått mellan octagontjejen Arianny Celeste och nuvarande mästaren i kvinnlig bantamvikt, Ronda Rousey. Mycket pekar på att matchbollen ännu är ur sikte.
Förra veckan gjorde Ronda Rousey (10-0) ett yttrande om att UFC-fighters rimligtvis borde tjäna mer deg än octagontjejer. Det är inte första gången Rousey, offentligt, ifrågasätter den marginella löneskillnaden mellan fighters och så kallade ”ringkortstekniker”. Detta uttalande fick Arianny Celeste att se rött, och Celeste replikerade med att anklaga Ronda Rousey för mobbning.
Rousey sa initialt att;
”There’s definitely a lot more in what the fighters do than what [Octagon girls] do. So, I think that’s one thing that’s unfair.”
Celeste anser att Rouseys uttalande uppfyller kriterierna för mobbning. Men med tanke på att varje fighter utsätter sin kropp och psyke för enorma påfrestningar kanske uttalandet är befogat?
Rousey besvarar anklagelsen och ifrågasätter hur hennes uttalande konstituerar som mobbning;
”That the fighters should get paid more than the ring girls? How does that make me a bully? That makes me [expletive] right. I’m sorry, but she wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for the fighters. She wouldn’t. You think her walking in circles around the two guys or two girls out there fighting for their lives is worth more? Think she works harder than they do?”
Rousey raljerar vidare och erbjöd Celeste en ”gratis offentlig lektion i relationer”. Rousey fortsätter , enligt foxsports; ”You know what would have been the best thing for her to say? ” säger Rousey innan hon fortsätter med en förolämpande imitation av Celestes röst; ’Oh my God, you know, these fighters work so hard and I wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for them. I just admire them so much. And yeah, I definitely think that they should get paid more than anybody in the arena tonight.’ There ya go. That’s a PR lesson for her.”
Att kalla någon för mobbare är en ganska allvarlig anklagelse, men är Rouseys reaktion rimlig eller orimligt hård?
