“It’s almost 100 percent,” Säger JDS om sin hand.“I’m not going to say 100 percent because it’s going to be too much, but it’s almost there. I’m feeling OK from the injuries, and actually I’m ready to go. I’m just training hard, and I think I can prepare for a fight already.”
Junior Dos Santos (16-3) senaste match var i oktober 2013 då han förlorade mot Cain Velasquez (13-1). Dos Santos var bokad för en fight på The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finalen i maj, men var tvungen att dra sig ur på grund av en handskada.
Dos Santos som berättar att skadan inte krävde en operation och att han tror handen kommer vara helt läkt till december har börjat träna med camp Nova Uniao där huvudtränaren Andre Pederneiras hjälper bland andra nuvarande UFC fjäderviktsmästaren Jose Aldo (24-1), föredetta UFC bantamviktsmästaren Renan Barao (32-2-1NC) och Bellator’s regerande bantamviktsmästare Eduardo Dantas (16-3) komma i toppform.
“I think it’s going to be good for me over there, they’re a good team. They don’t have too many heavyweights there, and it’s a problem, but I think that’s a problem everywhere. Everywhere you go, people feel like that: They don’t have too many heavyweights. So it’s a problem that we have to deal with. I think everything is going very good there, and I just want to improve my game. I want to be a more complete fighter. I think that ‘Dede’ Pederneiras is an excellent coach, and I think he’s going to teach me a lot of things.”
Efter två förluster mot nuvarande mästaren Velasquez är Dos Santos inte den första på listan att få slåss om bältet. Istället så kan Ben Rothwell (34-9) vara nästa motståndare för JDS. Rothwell som senast vann via TKO mot Alistair Overeem (37-14-1NC) har frågat efter en fight mot Dos Santos, men JDS har ännu ej fått en officiell förfrågan om detta möte från UFC.
“Whatever UFC wants me to do, I will do, I love what I do. Of course, he did very well against Alistair Overeem, and I think it could be a good fight.”
Det viktigaste för Dos Santos just nu är dock inte vem han möter, utan att han hinner få in en match innan året är över. Även om UFC har planerat in en hel del möten redan i årets sista månad så hoppas JDS att det ska finnas plats för honom med.
“Right now, it doesn’t really matter to me (who I fight) I just want to fight. I want to fight before the end of the year because it’s very important. In October, it’s going to be one year that I haven’t had a fight. It’s making me very frustrated, and I’m feeling very nervous about that. That’s what I do. That’s what I love to do, and that’s what I do to live, and I can’t wait to be back.”
