Efter nattens UFC Fight Night 28: Teixeira vs Bader så bekräftade UFC:s VD Dana White att Teixeira nu är nästa utmanare på lätt tungviktstiteln i UFC, efter hans prestation i matchen mot Ryan Bader.
På UFC 165 kommer Jon Jones och Alexander Gustafsson att göra upp, och efter det kommer vinnaren av den matchen att försvara titeln mot Teixeira. Men vem Texieira helst vill möta är inte speciellt viktigt, bara matchen handlar om en titel.
”I don’t have any preferences [who i will fight in a title bout],” säger Teixeira på presskonferensen efter UFC Fight Night 28. ”My dream is to get the belt, but I believe Jon Jones will win. And I hope Jones wins because he has a bigger name and he’s the champion for a long time. I have to come here prepared to beat him. I have the knockout power to do it. If my hand lands, he will go down.”
Vem av de två som Teixeira kommer att möta kommer förstås bestämmas den 21 september i Toronto på UFC 165.
