HETAST JUST NU
”I was born and raised in the martial arts philosophy.” – Bruno Carvalho (2011)
Simon Kölle (MMAnytt): I wrote an article recently about you as I think you are maybe the best not so known fighter right now in Sweden. How did you end up in Sweden and are you a Swedish citizen?
Bruno Carvalho:
Yeah! Thanks for the article btw, coz the Swedish media doesn’t give much attention to some fighters, don’t know why! I was first invited to teach in Båstad and I accepted the Challenge hehehe, Don’t got my citizenship yet.
SK: Please tell us a little bit about your youth and your martial arts family.
BC:
I started training at the young age of 3, my grandpa is a Judo master and also practiced BJJ and fought Vale Tudo, he made 4 sons and my mom black belts. so I was born and raised in the martial arts philosophy.
”my grandpa, my uncles, my mom they were all fighters”
SK: Everybody I speak with say you are one of the nicest guys around. Have you always been humble like that or is it something that has grown during the years?
BC:
Kaizen ”change for the better” try to live everyday better then the day before! I think I’ve always been the same guy, just trying to improve myself in all areas, as a fighter, as man, as human being!
SK: When did you start fighting MMA and what is it you like about fighting and training MMA?
BC:
My first pro fight was in 2003, as I said it’s just something that came in my blood, my grandpa, my uncles, my mom they were all fighters and I just love what I do and can’t see myself doing something else hehehe.
SK: You belong and coach on GBGMMA now a days. What do you think about that club?
BC:
Best camp in Sweden, just check the rankings and come one day to see a sparring session hehehe, good training, good coaching I’m happy a choose that family!
SK: You train with Assan Njie, a guy that fly under the radar sometimes, but most people say is a super talent. How good is Assan according to you and where do you think he will fight in three years?
BC:
Very good training partner, we help each other a lot , good stand up, good takedowns, explosive and strong. Really a super talent, just need the fights and in three years he can be crashing in the UFC!
”we have already asked to fight Papy or Bielkheden”
SK: You are the second highest (world) ranked Swedish fighter in MMA, only after Alexander, I have suggested you should fight against Thales Leites on the upcoming Superior Challenge event. Is that something that you would like to do?
BC:
People always ask me why I don’t fight in Sweden, promoters just don’t give me value, I think I have done enough and I have a good fan base so. I want to fight at SC but not really against Thales, I’m dropping to 77 and we have already asked to fight Papy or Bielkheden, nothing personal. I just think if I’m the nr 1 84 and dropping I wanna fight somebody good at 77.
SK: Please tell us a little bit about your current situation, you are training with Overeem, how’s that like?
BC:
Yeah! We’re in Thailand, O Einemo is here, Kharitonov, it’s like hard training and getting my ass kicked a lot hehehe, only heavy weights. Great experience, I always do grainy with Alistair on his camps, and we probably gonna meet again before his next fight.
Bruno with Einemo and the other trainingpartners in Thailand
SK: What’s your ultimate goals in MMA?
BC:
Step by step I’m climbing the rankings, I just wanna be the best I can be, I know I can beat a lot of guys out there, I think everyone’s goal is to be the best in the world, be the Champ In a big organization!
En av vinsterna ingen kunde sno från Bruno
”I have also a loss on Sherdog when I won”
SK: Are you best as coach and trainer or as a fighter?
BC:
Huuuumm good question, don’t know I love to do both, I started teach when I was 13-14 I think I can do both pretty well, have to ask my students hehehe
SK: There’s some controversy surrounding your fight against Lubomir. You lost first but ended up with the win right? And now you got stripped of your belt and the organization state that you lost the fight against Lubomir.
BC:
Just bullshit, just watch the fight and you gonna see who won, judges came after the fight to say they gave the fight to me but the show was in his home town, so we appealed and won, I have also a loss on Sherdog when I won, see my HL when the guy jump out of the ring when I had him in a deep foot lock, they put a loss, WFC also don’t wanna pay, and have no attention without my name so they just trying to use my name to market the show and a guy coming from like 5 losses in a row!
SK: You train right now with John Olav Einemo, how good is that guy and do you know why he has not fought in MMA since 2006?
BC:
Einemo is a great fighter and he’ll go far in the UFC, we have a lot of good sparring specially on the grappling days, we change a lot of experience, he’ll be fighting soon you guys will see!
”Sirwan showed a lot at The Zone, I’m sure he’s gonna get a spot on TUF”
SK: You are not the only good Brazilian martial artist living or with ties to Sweden. I am of course thinking about Alan Do Nascimento, Alan Carlos and more. Are you all friends? Please talk to us about how it is to live in Sweden as a Brazilian and about your team.
BC:
Marcelo Yogui, I think was one of the first BJJ guys here, I have good relationship with all the guys, we always meet in competitions or talk on Facebook hehehe, as a Brazilian living in Sweden I just miss the sun hehehehe my team is going well here with Mauro Salomao in Båstad, and Robson Barbosa in Helsingborg, they give support to other guys in Skåne and Denmark, and me and Alan take care of the classes at GBG.
SK: As I said I like to see you on Superior Challenge but other than that do you have any fight coming up soon?
BC:
My managers are checking this out we got some offers and trying to contact SC organization too, I hope you guys gonna see me fighting soon, I wanna be more active. Last year was slow for me I want 3 or 4 fights this year!
SK: Which fighter in Sweden are you most impressed with?
BC:
Sweden is full of good fighters right now, Alexander did really good last fight, want to congratulate him for the evolution, Sirwan showed a lot at The Zone, I’m sure he’s gonna get a spot on TUF, Assan, Domingos is doing good too, many good guys!
SK: Anything you like to add please do. Thank sponsors etcetera?
BC:
Thanks MMAnytt for a great interview. My sponsors, Kenka, fight line, phantom n self, my teammates without them I wouldn’t develop, my girlfriend for the support in the good and bad times, when I’m dieting I’m boring hehehe and my fans. I love what I do and do it for you guys too!
