Brasilianaren fortsätter i stadig takt att skapa kontroverser med sina ständiga knälås och helgens vinst skulle enligt representanter från Kaliforniens atletiska nämnd mycket väl kunnat ha slutat i repressalier för ”Toquinho”.
Det var i Rousimar Palhares (17-6) första försvar av WSoF:s welterviktstitel som historien såg ut att upprepa sig; brasilianaren tog misstänkt lång tid på sig att släppa det sedvanliga knälåset som tvingade Jon Fitch (26-7) att klappa i huvudmatchen under helgens WSoF 16 och eftersnacket lät inte vänta på sig. Med brasilianarens förflutna i åtanke är det ingen vidare överraskning och CSAC:s chef Andy Foster valde nyligen att dela med sig av tankarna kring vinsten i en intervju med MMAFighting.com.
”As soon as [the tap] touches you, he should have let it go,” uppgav han. ”He chose to keep it going another few seconds. You can say it’s the heat of the moment — I’ve heard that too many times from him. I don’t think it’s enough to punish him or anything. It’s real borderline. I’m pretty mad.”
Både VD Ray Sefo och Palhares själv var snabba med att försvara vinsten som ”ren” vilket Foster inte riktigt håller med om.
”Was it long? Yeah, it was long. I think if they argued that it wasn’t a bit long, then they’re kidding themselves or are they not being truthful. Was it beyond reason for anyone else in the world? No. If anyone else in the world did that, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. He has a freaking history of this,” förklarade Foster vidare. Han fortsatte:
”If the guy taps, he’s gotta let him go. That’s the game.”
