Inför Cage Warriors 69 är alla fighters nu medvetna om att de går miste om mer än hälften av sin lön om de inte klarar vikten.
I fredags kunde Cage Warriors meddela att organisationen bestämt att införa betydligt striktare bestraffning för de fighters som missat vikt. Tidigare har alla fighters som missat vikten med 2,2 lbs (1 kg) eller mindre tvingas böta 25% av deras lön till motståndaren och 40% om de missat vikten på mer än 2.2 lbs. Under de nya reglerna kommer fighters att automatiskt böta 60% av deras lön vid viktmiss, 40% kommer att gå till motståndaren, medan ytterligare 20% kommer att gå till en välgörenhetsorganisation utvald av motståndaren.
“We’re dealing with professional athletes here, but due to the lack of professionalism displayed by some, we’ve been forced to make these changes,” meddelade Cage Warriors vd Graham Boylan.
Denna nya regleringen kommer i samband med att hela sju fighters missade vikten inför CWFC 68 som gick av stapeln i Liverpool den tredje maj. Alla matcherna ägde rum, flera av dem i catchvikt.
”It’s imperative that fighters cut weight intelligently and do not push themselves beyond their bodies’ limits, so the onus is on them to ensure that they’re competing in the correct division, because making weight – and doing so in a safe manner – is absolutely compulsory.
“This is not about money, because the fines don’t go back into the company’s pocket. We’re making this change for the good of the sport and the promotion, so it’s now up to fighters to respect themselves, their opponents and the promotion, by making weight as they commit to in their contracts.
“SIxty per cent might seem like quite a significant figure, but the simple fact is that if you make weight like you’re supposed to, you won’t lose a penny.”
De nya reglerna kommer att gälla från och med invägningarna inför CWFC 69 den sjätte juni. Galan äger rum dagen därefter på The Forum och är en av organisationens starkaste matchkort någonsin, med två huvudkort och två titelmatcher.
